Little secrets of true connoisseurs

How to drink brandy

Not recommended

It is a misconception that all spirits should be drunk before meals. It's usually the other way around. Most often, bitter spirits are drunk before meals. Old plum brandies, i.e. plum brandy such as Gorda, old whiskeys, cognacs, calvados and rums are usually drunk after a meal because they are digestifs.

Although drinking “bottoms up” seems to be a custom from Serbia, it is a sin not to enjoy the exquisite sensations provided by fine brandy. Quality brandy such as Gorda should not be drunk “bottoms up” or cooled. Good brandy is ideally served at a temperature between seventeen and nineteen degrees. And the finest Gorda brandy is great during any season. Also, the čokanjče glass is a beautiful traditional form, but for fine brandy, it is actually advisable to use a different kind of glass – similar to cognac and wine glasses.

The older the drink, the thicker the "tears" on the glass and the slower they slide down its edges.

What we encourage

Feel free to swirl the glass containing the brandy as you would with good wine. Tears that form and flow slowly down the edges of the glass speak about the age of the drink. During the aging and maturation of the drink in wooden vessels, the process of extraction and dissolution, various compounds contained in wood become part of the drink, which directly or indirectly affect the organoleptic properties and viscosity of the drink. The older the drink, the higher its viscosity, so the "tears" on the glass will be thicker and will slide more slowly down its edges.

Hold the glass by its foot and bring it to the tip of your nose. Take a deep breath through your nose. Think. Imagine.
