About brandy

Brandy (in Serbian: “rakija”) belongs to the category of fine spirits and is deeply rooted in the history and tradition of Serbia.

Depending on the region, you can hear it pronounced as raki, rakia, rakiya. The root of this word is al-rak and is of Arabic origin, considered to be an old term for distilling, i.e. "sweating" of fruit at a high temperature. The female name Rakia in the Arab world means beauty, and people used to call this drink fire water or water of life.

Brandy means choosing the highest quality fruit

Brandy has a high alcohol volume, depending on the household that produces it, and is based on the processing of quality fruit. However, brandy should by no means be confused with liqueur, as brandy is a strong and fruity drink, but not sweet. It is practically impossible to compare it to any other drink due to its unique features.

Plum is the queen of all brandies

The different types brandy are based on the fruit which they are made from or the ingredients that are added during its production, such as certain herbs, juniper berries and the like. In relation to that, there is plum brandy, double-distilled plum brandy, apricot, quince, grape, herb and juniper brandy, among others. However, since plum brandy is the base of many brandies such as herb and juniper brandy, we can freely say that plum brandy is the queen of all brandies. Only royal brandies can withstand contact with oak for as long as thirty years.
